Technology Education Committee (TEC) serves as a fund raising committee in which proceeds are used specifically for the advancement of educational technology for the students and faculty of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception School.
To improve the availability, use and effectiveness of technology at St. Mary, equitably for all students. Tools engage and motivate today’s learners. With digital movies, music, and photography in the classroom, amazing things can happen. Engaged through the tools of their generation, students are more motivated to learn, feel a stronger connection to the subject matter and spend more time on task. Few schools have fully-integrated,technology-forward learning environments.
In the spring of 2003, a team of volunteers was formed to evaluate the technological needs of our school. Their function was, and continues to be, creating technology plans, searching out funding through grants and donors, and making sure St. Mary offers the latest and greatest in technology for our students.
One of the technology-forward program goals is to create a mobile learning environment at St. Mary Parish School, where students and teachers have access to touch/tablet technology, notebook computers, digital content, educational software and digital authoring tools. We want to engage today’s students in ways that match how they best learn and interact in today’s world. In 2011 and 2012, we will make iPad and iPod Touch Mobile Discovery Labs available to grades Kindergarten through Eighth to integrate tablet and mobile device technology in their classrooms as well.
