Drama

Saint Mary School is particularly proud of its Drama Club which presents a dinner theater each school year. This club has grown in the past few years and is evident from the participation in last years spring production "Night at the Wax Museum."   The hysterical meets the historical in this comic romp through the wackiest wax museum in history!  School's out for summer, but not for six unlucky students who don't know much about history — they have to re-take the class in summer school.  First year teacher Heather Fairchild has arranged for them to help her two aunts set up a new wax museum as a class project. Things take a strange turn when the wax figures come to life and they are all looking for one thing...treasure! Supposedly, there's a mighty valuable one hidden in the museum!  It's a wild goose chase to find it, with a greedy museum landlord and her bumbling son joining in the mad search. Join the hilarious fun as treasure-hungry outlaws, pirates and royalty mount the greatest siege since Vicksburg!  Wax historical in this mad-cap comedy adventure where the magic of history comes alive... literally!

in the Saint Mary Drama Club, students may audition for acting roles, singing or dancing roles, props or set crew members. Each play is presented twice; once for the school body and once as a dinner theater for the parents and parish community.

Music

At St. Mary,  we believe that Music is an enriching and integral part of a solid education.   St. Mary’s music education program teaches a vast array of music concepts and skills.  Kindergarten through eighth grades have the opportunity to participate in music classes, whether it is singing and dancing in music class or playing the trombone in band.   During Music we teach the basic concepts by singing, dancing, moving, playing and creating.

The entire school participates in a Christmas Performance during the holiday season.  In the spring students can show off their individual talents by performing in the yearly Talent Show.  Our music program adheres to the National Standards for Music Education along with the Catholic Diocesan Music Education Standards.  We aim to prepare students for a life long appreciation and love of music.

Instrument Music Lessons

Saint Mary School offers music lessons on wind instruments to students in grades 4 through 8.  The lessons are scheduled once a week during the school day.  The instruments taught include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet (cornet) and trombone.  Only second year students may audition for percussion (drums).  Percussion forms are available from the director.

When the students have mastered the basics they may become members of the Band.  Band rehearsals are scheduled once a week for 45 minutes.  Each year band students participate in a Band Festival with other Parochial schools in the area.  The festival includes a daytime performance at St. Joseph School in Avon Lake and an evening performance at Avon High School.

Tuition for the entire school year will be $250.00 and is payable at $125.00 per semester.  If you have any questions, please call me at school.  I will be happy to return your call and answer any questions.

Why is Participating in Band important for you?

  • To develop mental and physical abilities
  • To learn self-discipline to achieve individual goals
  • To work cooperatively to achieve team goal
  • To provide lifelong musical enjoyment
