Athletic Boosters

The St. Mary Athletic Boosters is a volunteer fundraising organization of St. Mary Parish and School, responsible to the Pastor and Principal, organized and originated through the St. Mary Parish Council, for the funding and supervision of all athletic activities associated with the Parish and School. In addition, some funding of very specific aspects of the School's Physical Education, Athletic Development and Recreation (P.E.A.R) program may fall under the funding responsibilities of the Athletic Boosters. These specific areas of the P.E.A.R program are limited to equipment shared between the PE Program and the offered extracurricular Parish athletic sports program. Through our fundraising efforts, we are able to support high quality sport programs at St. Mary.

Membership meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, except in July in the Parish Activiity Center at 8:00 pm.  Membership consists of all families whose children participate in the sport programs facilitated by the Athletic Boosters and those interested in promoting Catholic values in sports.

The CYO Athletic Program of St. Mary is chartered to perform, and strides to develop a Christian athlete who places God ahead of individual or team victories and who strives to play to the best of his/her ability while exemplifying the qualities of good sportsmanship and fair play. Children from the Day School, Parish School of Religion, and surrounding Parishes are encouraged to partipate in the St. Mary CYO program. St. Mary also offers the intramural basketball program for all children in the surrounding Avon area.

The development of the individual athlete is placed ahead of winning. Student athletes will develop spiritually, physically, psychologically, and socially through their participation in a positive athletic program.

Program Objectives

  1. 1. Student athletes will develop spiritually by learning to place Christian values at the forefront of competition, sportsmanship and athletic endeavors.
  2. 2. Student athletes will develop physically by learning sport skills, improving physical conditioning, developing good health habits, and learning to avoid injury.
  3. 3. Student athletes will develop physically by learning self-discipline and responsibility and by developing a feeling of self-worth.
  4. 4. Student athletes will develop socially by learning an appropriate standard of behavior (sportsmanship): by learning to cooperate with others and to develop a positive feeling of team spirit; and by learning the effects of competition by playing to the best of their ability.
  5. 5. The philosophy of a Team Concept will be stressed at the instructional as well as competitive levels of play on St. Mary teams.
