Registration opens 9/1 and runs through the first week of October.
The St. Mary Avon CYO Basketball Program is open to boys/girls in grades 3-8. The program is available to all students enrolled in St. Mary Avon School or St. Mary PSR. We also offer CYO basketball opportunities for high school parishioners. Please note that CYO rules prohibit players from being on a CYO team and another basketball team at the same time.
Once the registration period closes, the coach selection and team formation process will begin.- Grades 3-5: If there are multiple teams in a grade level, we strive to balance teams evenly based on overall abilities. Committee members will attend practices during the first two weeks to observe players, seek feedback from coaches and guide the process.
- Grades 6-8: Based on CYO bylaws and divisions, if team splits are necessary, players are placed on teams most closely coinciding with their abilities and skill level. An evaluation format is used to help in this process. Feedback from coaches along with a committee of 3-5 members (one of which will be an outside member) will factor into team placement. In addition, committee members shall not have children on the team they are evaluating.
Practices/Games – Practices are typically twice per week beginning the first week in November. Games begin in late November/early December and are held on weekends. Teams can also elect to participate in area tournaments which could entail games during the week. The season concludes in mid-late February.
St. Mary’s encourages parents to volunteer for coaching roles to assist with the development of our youth. Please visit the coaching section of our website at to complete an application and to view additional requirements.
Fee is $110 through 10/7. After the 10/7 deadline, the fee is $120 and registration is based on availability.
