Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception School has created a caring and close community. The rich history and tradition of our school, which began in 1845, promotes a parish, school and community of faith. We work together and even become friends by sharing the responsibility of teaching all our students, guided by our faith in God and our devotion to our Blessed Mother, Mary.
We have always enjoyed and relied upon the volunteerism of our parents, grandparents, alumni and friends. When times are tough, we can always count on our school community to come together and give generously of their time, talents, and financial support. We take pride in our efforts and great joy in our school's mission to foster Catholic values while facilitating educational excellence! The end results are students of today becoming effective leaders of tomorrow.
Welcome to another exciting year! St. Mary Catholic School has a high level of parent involvement committed to volunteering at the school and at school activities.
We sincerely appreciate those people generously build time in their busy schedules to be St. Mary volunteers. Students will define a volunteer as “a person who does something without pay.” Fortunately at St. Mary School, we have many supportive parents, grandparents, who serve to help our students and teachers. From simple, but valuable lunch or recess monitors, classroom parents who organize parties, field trip chaperones, to hard-working and effective fund-raisers on various committees throughout the year, St. Mary volunteers continue to be a valuable resource in representing our school and parish to the community at large. The Diocese of Cleveland require all persons who volunteer and spend 4 hours or more per month with children be VIRTUS trained. Click here to visit Virtus online.
Throughout the Year....
Homeroom Parent
These volunteers help their children’s teachers with planning and assisting activities such as parties, field trips and the teacher’s requests. Other activities may come up throughout the year at the discretion of the teacher. The time commitment ranges from 2-3 hours per month on average; exact times may vary.
Pride Committee
The Pride Committee is a group of parents and teachers who work with the School staff and PTU to promote Saint Mary's in the Community.
Movie Nights
Occasionally during the year, movie nights are held for groups of students. Volunteers are needed to send out flyers to the parents, choose the movie with the approval of the principal, help with snacks, and provide supervision the evening of the movie.
Playground Supervision & Cafeteria Coverage
These volunteers are needed each day that lunch is served. The volunteers will assist the cafeteria staff by preparing lunch trays as needed, distributing milk, and selling drinks, ice cream and snacks. The Playground Monitor will supervise the outside recess. Parent volunteers wear a bright orange vest for ease in identifying them on the playground. Volunteers can work any of the two daily lunch shifts or playground duty. Volunteers may choose to work once a month, twice a month, weekly, or any schedule that suits. The first lunch shift volunteers will be needed from 11:20 until 11:50 (Grades 4 -8) or 11:50 - 12:20 (k - 3) Please contact the school office with questions.
Winterfest
This committee organizes a dinner/dance fund-raising event every February. Volunteers are needed to raise funds by obtaining sponsorships from businesses, advertising for the program, donations of prizes and auction items from local businesses. Additional volunteers are needed to setup early on the day of the event as well as work a couple of hours during the evening of the event itself. Please contact the Athletic Boosters and PTU for more information.
Field Day
This year-end event takes place at the end of May. The students enjoy games, pizza, and a volleyball match between the eighth grade students and the Faculty. Volunteers are needed in assisting with games and serving lunch.
Tailgate Party
Early in September come and enjoy a tailgate party in St. Mary's parking lot for Avon High School's home football game. We need volunteers for set up, grilling, serving, and clean up.
Book Fair
This committee coordinates the Book Fair that begins during the first teacher conference and continues through the first week of November. Volunteers are needed to check-in books, open and set up the book cases, display items on tables, assist the children with their shopping, help with totaling and payment of purchases, take inventory after the sale, and box items for return shipping.
Santa Shoppe
This St. Mary School tradition takes place during a designated school day in December. The Santa Shoppe is a great opportunity for the students to Christmas shop on their own for gifts for their families. Volunteers are needed to setup and help students shop, check-out, and wrap their purchases.
